Local leaders in the towns of Bethel, Newry, Greenwood and Woodstock have formed the Mahoosuc Sustainable Tourism Committee for the purpose of creating a sustainable travel destination and preserving the local quality of life and community vitality.
The Committee asks local residents and visitors to join them in pledging to "Embrace Our Place":
- Honor this land
- Explore wisely
- Show respect
- Cultivate community
- Be climate conscious
The new initiative is an outgrowth of a sustainability program sponsored in 2019 by the Northern Forest Center and the Maine Office of Tourism.
It's hoped that the outdoor recreation opportunities offered by the Mahoosuc Region will make it an attractive destination for visitors as Maine recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
