Amsterdam launches €160K campaign to draw culture tourists

City of Amsterdam

The City of Amsterdam has launched its initial 2021 campaigns that are intended to draw tourists who are interested in culture, not partying.

The City is investing €100,000 and business partners another €60,000.

A City spokesperson said:

"The campaign is aimed at visitors with an interest in culture in the broadest sense of the word. It is extremely important right now to support the sector and bring the city back to life by attracting visitors who bring something to the city themselves."

And in case the new campaign isn't enough to weed out the most egregious partiers, the city is at the same time upping policing with plans to issue more on-the-spot fines for bad behavior.

Amsterdam banned all organized tours from the city's Red Light District - where leering at prostitutes was a popular pastime among tourists - in 2019.

Tourism taxes put €133.6M into the city's coffers in 2019, but less than half that in 2020.
