Update on American travel trends and sentiment by market researchers Destination Analysts finds that 77.0% of Americans say this week (3-8 May 2021) that they are ready to travel in summer 2021, but only 21.6% have made a reservation or booking.

If there are 330M adult Americans (a pretty good estimate), and if data from this sample can reasonably be extrapolated to the entire US population, that means that 254.1M Americans are ready now to travel in summer 2021, but only 71.3M have booked or reserved as of this week.

That leaves 182.8M Americans who are just dying to travel this summer, but are still up for grabs by destinations.

And traveler sentiment re cities is recovering: 41.2% of survey respondents this week said they plan to visit a city in summer 2021, vs. 35.9% last week.
