On 30 December 2019 Turkish Airlines began flights between Istanbul and Xi'an. Much of the traffic on this route is expected to consist of Chinese travelers connecting at Istanbul to flights headed farther west into the UK and mainland Europe.

And on 4 January Biman Bangladesh Airlines began flying between Dhaka and Manchester via Sylhet. More than 70,000 Bangladeshis live in northern England.
