Maine voters reject York County casino despite marketing spend of $10M of largely out-of-state money

Mainers found the idea that passing the referendum would have given promoter Shawn Scott exclusive rights to the York County casino license to be especially offputting.

Just days earlier the Maine Ethics Commission had voted to fine the casino campaign $500,000 for financing disclosure violations.

I believe Maine voters made the right choice on this one.
