Project: Time Off

New Project: Time Off research reported as State of American Vacation 2018 found that Americans were beginning to take a little more time off from work in 2017. But more than half of Americans are forfeiting part of the time of to which they're entitled.

Highlights:

  • In 2017, Americans failed to use 705M days of vacation, and forfeited forever 212M days
  • That unused vacation time cost the US economy around $255B
  • 52% of employees reported not using all their 2017 vacation days - down from 54% in 2016
  • On average, employees took 17.2 vacation days, up from 16.8 in 2016.
  • Positive impact on the US economy of that additional use of vacation days is estimated at $30.7B.

FYI, in every EU country, workers are guaranteed at least 20 days of paid vacation annually, on top of holidays. Austrians get the most time off: 22 days of paid vacation and 13 paid holidays annually.

We need to get more of those long-haul European tourists.
