Maine Turnpike Authority Executive Director Peter Mills says: "Every month in 2016 has been a record month for the entire history of the turnpike."

Contributing factors are believed to include low gas prices, hot and sunny weather, and plenty of tourists.

For 2016 year to date, traffic is up about 7% from 2015.

Per Maine Office of Tourism, over 70% of visitors to Maine arrive by car.
