Italy's national tourism agency Italia Agenzia Nazionale Turismo has announced that beginning 6 August 2021 all persons over the age of 12 must present a health pass in order to access:

  • Cinemas
  • Theaters
  • Exhibitions
  • Museums
  • Sporting events
  • Private parties
  • Festivals
  • Trade fairs
  • Swimming pools
  • Gymnasiums
  • Restaurants
  • Bars
  • Pastry shops

In Italy, the announcement produced widespread protests. (See video.)

Nightclubs remain closed to all.

Passes are issued to those who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, have recently recovered from the disease, or present a negative test taken within the past 48 hours.

The government is also considering making the Green Pass mandatory for travel by plane, train or long-distance bus later this year.

The Italian Green Pass is part of the EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate program, recognized reciprocally throughout the EU.
