Florida Keys DMO fires marketing director

The Monroe County Tourism Development Council (TDC) - which does business as "Florida Keys & Key West - has fired Marketing Director Stacey Mitchell after County Clerk Kevin Madok criticized her performance in complying with county polices and expressed "ethical concerns".

Ms. Mitchell had been on paid suspension since November 2023 - pending the outcome of a forensic audit in which Ms. Mitchell is alleged not to have cooperated.

In a TDC board meeting this week, TDC Board member and County Mayor Holly Raschein moved to fire Ms. Mitchell. Ms. Mitchell's attorney made the argument that she became a political target following issues that arose in an election year over funding of the County's 200th anniversary celebration. But Board members voted 11-0 to remove Ms. Mitchell, and on the advice of the County Attorney did so without cause.

The Monroe County TDC is now presumably seeking a new Marketing Director.
