Addition of the US, Canada, France, Italy and Belgium brings the list of countries whose residents face mandatory hotel quarantine upon arrival in Ireland to more than 70.

Ireland thus goes beyond the UK's hotel quarantine requirement by including some EU countries.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has announced that because of concerns over more communicable COVID-19 variants, beginning at 4 AM local time on Thursday, 15 April 2021, in addition to quarantining, arrivals to Ireland from "high risk" countries will also have to take and pass a COVID-19 test before traveling, and book a second test to be taken within 5 days after arrival.

Quarantining at one of 24 designated Irish hotels for 12 nights will cost arrivals a minimum of €1,875.

As shown in the photo above, quarantining is being overseen by the Irish Defense Forces.
