On 2 July 2019 Emirates began 4/week flights on a 6069 km route between Dubai and Porto using 777-200LR aircraft. Service is expected to continue year-round, and there's no competition on this route. Porto is hoping to receive both business travelers and tourists from the Gulf via this new service.

And on 5 July Russian LCC Pobeda Airlines began 2/week seasonal (until 25 October) flights on the 832 km route betwen Riga and Moscow Vnukovo using 737-800 aircraft. Utair is a direct competitor on this route.
