Posted 17 January 2018:

About 473 rooms will be added by 2019 by hotel projects already in the works.

Historical statewide occupancy rate increased by just 1% in 2017, but annual state lodging tax revenues have been growing recently.

Some are concerned that oversupply of rooms will lead to discounting.

Burlington's attractions for tourists include the Shelburne Museum, Fleming Museum of Art, Ethan Allen Homestead, Echo Lake Aquarium, and cruises on Lake Champlain. But I'm not seeing any news reports of additions or expansions to attractions. US domestic tourism is expected to be a strong market in 2018, but even if national or global growth in tourism is sustained to 2020, will that result in enough incremental visitation to Burlington to fill those new rooms at sustainable rates?

Stay tuned.
