About 16,000 of those guests were Mainers, most of the rest came from Massachusetts and New York State.

Hosts collected around $40M in revenues.

Tough competition for hotels and B&Bs as long as short-term rental properties remain largely unregistered, unregulated and uninspected.

But on the positive side: the Airbnb properties hosted more than 200K guests from out of state, who will have patronized Maine restaurants, retailers, attractions and gas stations, and paid sales and lodging taxes.
