At a press conference at noon today, officials of the Trump Administration announced that because of the threat of spread of COVID-19 and by mutual agreement with the Government of Mexico, the US-Mexico border will be closed to non-essential travel, as was the US-Canada border earlier this week.
Travel by students for educational purposes was cited today as an exempt category - something we hadn't heard previously.
