AAA expects 2.54M New Englanders to travel over the July 4th holiday week, an increase of 4.5% over 2018 and the most since 2001.

Most - 2.2M, about 85% of the total population, up 4.6% from last year - will travel by car, 191K by air and 154K on trains, buses and cruise ships.

Average price of gasoline during the holiday period in Massachusetts - the #1 drive market for most of New England - is expected to be $2.71/gallon - down $0.20 from 2018.

Worst time for travel around Boston is expected to be between 10 AM and noon on Friday 5 July, with delays 3.4X the usual.
